Edit Shopify Product Descriptions with Airtable Rich Text

Enable Airtable rich text columns so AirPower converts your formatted copy to Shopify-ready HTML automatically.

Edit Shopify Product Descriptions with Airtable Rich Text Columns

In Shopify, the product description body is stored as HTML. The admin’s WYSIWYG editor produces that HTML behind the scenes, but the field itself is markup.

Editing descriptions across many products in Airtable usually means working with raw HTML strings in a long text column. Headings, bold, and lists become tag soup that is slow to read and easy to break.

AirPower converts between Shopify HTML and Airtable’s rich text formatting automatically. Set the mapped column to Long Text and enable rich text formatting. On a Shopify → Airtable sync, HTML is rendered as formatted text. On an Airtable → Shopify sync, the formatted text is converted back to HTML.

Set up the column

First, change the type of the column you want to sync to your products’ descriptions to “Long Text”. Then enable the “Enable rich text formatting” toggle. You will immediately see visual shortcuts to format your text, but you can also use the tried and true Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, etc. shortcuts.

Second, just run a Shopify-to-Airtable or Airtable-to-Shopify sync. AirPower detects that you have mapped the field to a rich text column, and will automatically handle things. In a Shopify-to-Airtable sync it will convert your description HTML to the rich text format, and during an Airtable-to-Shopify sync it will convert the rich text format to HTML as required by Shopify.

Happy editing!
