Bulk Edit Shopify Blogs and Blog Posts with Airtable

In Shopify, articles live inside blogs. A blog is a channel such as “News” or “Customer Stories”, and each blog post is an article in one of them, with its own title, handle, body HTML, author, summary, tags, image, and publish date.

Editing this content in the Shopify admin means opening one rich-text editor at a time. Editorial calendars, bulk SEO updates, and content reviews outgrow that quickly.

AirPower brings blogs and blog posts into Airtable as two linked tables. Plan an editorial calendar in an Airtable view, edit summaries and tags in bulk, set publish dates, then send the changes to Shopify in one run.

Bring blogs and posts into Airtable

1. On the dashboard, click Edit on your Shopify to Airtable sync
2. Click Add data, then Blogs
3. Click Create a Blogs table, or pick one of your tables from Use a table
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for Blog posts, with its own table
5. Click Save in the save bar

New tables come with the recommended fields. To add more, click Whole blog post, then click Sync to Airtable under each field you want.

Each post links to its blog’s row, through the linked-record column between the two tables. See Linked-record columns.

Keep them up to date

Shopify doesn’t tell apps when blogs and posts change, so they update only when you download them. Saving the sync downloads them. To download them again later:

1. On the sync’s page, click Settings
2. Find Download data
3. Click Download next to Blog posts

That one download brings in both blogs and their posts.

What blogs and posts contain

Blogs
Title, handle, comment policy, article tags, article count, template suffix, the created and updated dates, and store URL.

Blog posts
Title, body HTML, summary HTML, author, handle, tags, published and published at, image URL and alt text, comment count, template suffix, blog ID, the created and updated dates, and store URL. The SEO Title Tag and SEO Description Tag metafields hold the post’s search listing.

Update or create posts from Airtable

1. On the dashboard, click Edit on your Airtable to Shopify sync
2. Click Add data, then Blogs, and pick your Blogs table from Use a table
3. Click Add data, then Blog posts, and pick your Blog Posts table
4. On the Blog posts tab, click Send from Airtable on the fields you want to send
5. Click Save in the save bar
6. Edit the rows in Airtable
7. Click Sync now

A row with a Shopify ID updates that post. A row without one becomes a new post in the blog it links to, and the sync writes the new Shopify ID back to the row. Link each new post to its blog’s row first. Blogs themselves can be updated from Airtable, but not created.

Use a long text column for body HTML and summary HTML. An empty cell clears that part of the post in Shopify.

What you’ll see after saving

After the download, the Blogs table has a row for each blog, and the Blog Posts table a row for each post, linked to its blog. After an Airtable to Shopify run, your edits and new posts show in the Shopify admin under Blog posts.
