Add Shopify Product Variants in Bulk with Airtable

In Shopify, a variant is one purchasable version of a product, defined by option values like size, color, or material. Each variant carries its own SKU, price, and inventory. New variants are added from the product’s page in the Shopify admin.

For new launches or option expansions, creating variants in the admin means opening each product and entering rows one at a time through the variants editor.

AirPower brings variant creation into Airtable. Add a new row to the Variants table, link it to the product, fill in the option values, and run the sync. Shopify creates the variant and writes the assigned ID back to the row.

Prerequisites

The Airtable → Shopify sync must have Variants configured in Data & fields with the option fields (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3) mapped to your Airtable columns. The variant rows must be linked to their corresponding product rows.

Add variants

  1. Open the Airtable table where your variants are stored
  2. Add a new row for each variant. Leave the Shopify ID column blank.
  3. Fill in the variant name and any option value columns (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3) based on how the product’s variants are differentiated
  4. Link the row to the correct product row
  5. Click Sync now on the dashboard Airtable → Shopify sync card

AirPower creates the variant in Shopify and writes the new Shopify ID back to the row. If a variant fails to create, open the dashboard sync card and click View Errors to review the reason.
