Create Missing Airtable Tables and Columns from the Sync Editor

Create missing Airtable tables and columns directly from the AirPower sync editor and auto-map fields without switching between Airtable and AirPower.

Create Missing Airtable Tables and Columns

Setting up a sync against an empty or partially built Airtable base normally means jumping back and forth: open Airtable, add a table, add columns, switch back to the sync editor, refresh. Each missing column is one more trip between tools.

AirPower can create the missing tables and columns directly from the sync editor. When you map a Shopify field to a table or column that does not exist yet, the editor offers to create it for you, including the recommended fields for that data type.

Create a missing table

When you type a table name in Airtable table that does not exist in the connected base, the editor offers to create it with the recommended fields:

Missing table message in the sync editor with a Create table button

To create the table:

  1. Open a sync
  2. Go to Data & fields
  3. Click a data type
  4. In the Airtable table selector, type a new table name
  5. Click Create “[table name]” table

The button changes to Creating… while the request is in progress.

For Shopify → Airtable syncs where the data type has a supported download row, a prompt appears after the table is created:

Save sync, and sync [data type] now: saves the sync and immediately queues a download of that data type from Shopify.

Not now: closes the prompt without queuing a download. You can run a download later from Settings → Download Shopify data.

Auto-map columns for an existing table

When you select a table that already exists and has no field mappings configured, the editor may offer to set up the column mappings automatically:

Set up your column mappings automatically prompt with Yes, go ahead and Not now buttons

Yes, go ahead: AirPower fills in mappings for columns that already exist on the table. It matches a Shopify field to a column when the name and type line up. Columns that do not exist yet are not created this way.

Not now: leaves mappings empty so you can configure them manually.

The auto-map prompt only appears when the table has a valid Shopify ID column and no existing mappings.

Create a missing column

When you map a Shopify field to an Airtable column that does not exist in the table yet, the editor flags it on the mapping row:

Click Create column to create it. The button changes to Creating… while the request runs. After creation, the column is available in Airtable and is used by the mapping.

Reload tables and columns

If you add or rename tables or columns directly in Airtable while the sync editor is open, click Reload tables and columns in the Connections section to refresh the list. Changes made in Airtable are not picked up automatically.

What you’ll see after saving

Created tables and columns appear in your Airtable base immediately. Field mappings using those columns become active on the next sync run. Any newly created tables include the recommended fields for that data type.
