Metaobject fields you can edit in Airtable

The columns come from your own metaobject definitions, so every store's tables look different. Add only the fields you need.

Area Fields Into Airtable Back to Shopify
Definitions Every metaobject definition in your store, such as size guides, ingredient lists, or store locations. Each one gets its own table. Read only
Definition fields The fields you set up on each definition, such as text, numbers, and dates, one column per field Set up metaobjects
Handle The entry's handle. New entries without one get a handle generated from the Airtable row.
Status Active or draft, for definitions that use Shopify's publishable setting
Display name The name Shopify shows for each entry in the admin Read only
Shopify ID The ID Shopify gives each entry. AirPower writes it back to new rows after they are created. About the Shopify ID column Read only

Metafields on products, collections, and other records have their own page: Metafields.

From Shopify to Airtable and back

Two Syncs do the work. One brings your entries in and keeps them current. The other sends your edits to Shopify.

  1. Bring your entries in

Click Add data on the Sync page and pick a definition under Metaobjects. Create a table for it or use one of yours, then save to load every entry. New and changed entries in Shopify keep arriving on their own.

  2. Edit in bulk

Filter a view, then paste, fill down, or find and replace across entries. Add a row with an empty Shopify ID to create a new entry.

  3. Click Sync now

Rows with a Shopify ID update their entry. Rows without one become new entries, and AirPower writes the new ID back.

Empty cells are skipped. An empty cell is left out of the update, so it does not clear that field in Shopify. Deleting a row in Airtable does not delete the entry in Shopify either. Clear values and remove entries in the Shopify admin.

Shopify admin or Airtable for metaobjects

Shopify's bulk editor and CSV files already handle some metaobjects edits. Here is what changes when you work in Airtable.

Task In the Shopify admin In Airtable with AirPower
Edit many entries Shopify's help for metaobjects covers editing entries in the admin. It doesn't describe a bulk editor or a CSV import. Each definition is its own table with one column per field, so every entry is in one grid.
Add new entries Shopify's help describes adding entries from the admin. Rows without a Shopify ID become new entries when you sync, with a handle generated if you leave it blank.

Metaobject questions

More answers in the help center, or email team@airpowersync.com.

Which metaobject types can I sync?

Any metaobject definition in your Shopify store. AirPower loads your definitions from Shopify, and each one gets its own Airtable table. If your store has no definitions, none appear.

Can I create new entries from Airtable?

Yes. A row without a Shopify ID becomes a new entry when you sync. If the row has no handle, AirPower generates one. The new Shopify ID is then written back to the row.

Can I create new metaobject definitions from Airtable?

No. Create definitions in the Shopify admin. Once a definition exists, it is listed under Metaobjects in Add data.

Do changes made in Shopify show up in Airtable?

Yes. With a Shopify to Airtable Sync running, new, changed, and deleted entries update the Airtable table on their own. Edits made in Airtable reach Shopify when the Airtable to Shopify Sync runs.
