From Shopify to Airtable and back
Two Syncs do the work. One brings your variants in and keeps them current. The other sends your edits to Shopify.
-
Bring your variants in
Add Products and Variants to a Shopify to Airtable Sync and save it. Every variant downloads onto its own row, linked to its product, and changes made in Shopify keep arriving on their own.
-
Edit in bulk
Group by product or filter by option value, then paste, fill down, find and replace, or drive prices from a formula across thousands of rows.

Rows with a Shopify ID update their variant. A new row linked to a product becomes a new variant, and AirPower writes the new Shopify ID back. Add variants
Give variants their own table. Use a Variants table linked to Products when products come in sizes or colors. If Products and Variants share one table, each row only holds the product's first variant, and the other variants are not visible. Compare the layouts
Shopify admin or Airtable for variants
Shopify's bulk editor and CSV files already handle some variants edits. Here is what changes when you work in Airtable.
| Task | In the Shopify admin | In Airtable with AirPower |
|---|---|---|
| Change option values | Changing Option1, Option2, or Option3 values in a product CSV deletes the existing variant IDs and creates new ones. | Each row keeps its Shopify ID, so AirPower updates the variant that's already there. |
| Variant metafields | Variant metafields aren't supported in product CSV import and export. | Variant metafields are columns on the Variants table and go back to Shopify. See Metafields. |
| Stock at several locations | The product CSV's Inventory quantity column is only for stores with a single location. | Available quantity at each location is its own column on the same Variants row. |

Variant questions
More answers in the help center, or email team@airpowersync.com.
Can I add new variants from Airtable?
Yes. Add a row to the Variants table, leave the Shopify ID column blank, link it to its product row, and fill in the option values. When you sync, Shopify creates the variant and AirPower writes the new Shopify ID back into the row. Add variants
Can I change cost and customs details in bulk?
Yes. Cost per item, country and province of origin, and harmonized system code sit on the variant row next to price and SKU. Edit them across any number of rows, then sync.
Can I set unit prices from Airtable?
Yes. Each variant row can hold its total amount and base measure with their units, such as 500 g priced per 100 g, and whether shoppers see the unit price. Shopify works out the unit price from the variant's price. Unit prices
Can I edit stock on the same table?
Yes. Inventory columns live on the Variants table, one per location. Only Available quantities are sent back to Shopify. Other quantity types come into Airtable for reporting. Inventory page
Do Airtable edits reach Shopify right away?
No. Edits reach Shopify when your Airtable to Shopify Sync runs. That happens when you click Sync now, on a schedule as often as every hour or once a day, or from another tool, with the link in Settings under Start it from another tool. Schedule options
